Carincur and João Pedro Fonseca, artists and researchers at ZABRA – Centre for Post-Human Art Research, present HIDRORAVE: a participatory artistic activation created for the architectural installation by Manuel Bouzas in the Fontainhas neighbourhood, as part of the FORMA DA VIZINHANÇA architecture and art festival, and integrated into the programme of Braga’s Noite Branca.
This performance unfolds through a process of amplification and resonance: performative bodies engage directly with three hydraulic elements of the Fonte do Atlas (also known as Fonte do Mundo) — the fountain, the line, and the tank. Through this contact, vibrations, breath and pulse emerge: a rave built not through spectacle, but through presence, embodiment, and water — not just as a natural element, but as a transformative force.
The fountain is inhabited by the mythological figure of Atlas. In this contemporary ritual, his body is reimagined — no longer carrying the globe alone, but a world saturated with ecological, social, urban and corporeal tensions. Its weight is liquid. Here, water takes centre stage: as a political and sensorial vector, a medium for transformation, contagion and survival. HIDRORAVE is not celebration, nor escapism — it’s a threshold state. A body in transition, in osmotic exchange with its surroundings. As it sweats, it dissolves — becoming porous, collective, unstable.
The performance emerges from a collaborative process with participants in a preparatory workshop led by the artists, exploring performative practices, live sound and light as modes of sensory and artistic expression.
Workshop · 3 September · 18:00
This workshop is open to young people and adults, with or without previous experience in performance, sound or light. We’re looking for 15 participants — curious amateurs or exploring professionals — to join a collective process where sound and light are explored as tools of artistic and technological expression.
Throughout the session, participants will experiment with real-time sound capture and manipulation, transforming it into vibrant sonic textures. Light will also be explored as a visual and sensorial language, shaping pulses, forms and atmospheres that interact with sound and the moving body.
No prior experience is required — only a willingness to experiment, to listen, and to collaborate in an immersive group setting. SIGN UP HERE
Participants will be invited to take part in the final performance of HIDRORAVE, conceived by Carincur and João Pedro Fonseca (ZABRA), which will take place on 6 September at 18:30 as part of Braga’s Noite Branca programme.
This activation is part of the FORMA DA VIZINHANÇA architecture and art festival, within Braga 25 – Portuguese Capital of Culture.
